Yesterday was Gamescom's Opening Night Live and, well… I survived it. That's honestly the best compliment I can give. These shows always feel like Geoff Keighley standing in the middle of a three-hour cringe compilation. Developers awkwardly reading lines off a teleprompter, translators ping-ponging Japanese and English back and forth like a bad improv bit - please, for the love of the game, let someone else host just one of these things. How did we get to a point where Geoff Keighley is the ONLY host of every single game event?
Anyway. Rant over. Because hidden in all that boredom was the one trailer that actually made me sit up like the Bat-Signal lit the sky: Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight.
Now, usually I'm not a "Lego games" person. They're fun, sure, but let's be real - they're all kind of the same. But this? This is different. This is Lego Batman getting the full "Skywalker Saga" treatment. It looks like Arkham City… but in Lego. Open-world Gotham, gliding across rooftops, free-flow combat, Batmobiles of every era - you name it.
And the nostalgia factor? Off the charts. The trailer showed Tim Burton's Gotham, Christopher Nolan's Joker, Matt Reeves' Penguin, and Matt Berry voicing Bane. Yes. Matt. Berry. As. Bane. What more could you possibly want?
Even better, it's not just Batman - you can play as Gordon, Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, Catwoman, and even Talia al Ghul. Each character with their own gadgets, combos, and ridiculous Lego flair. Gotham itself is packed with puzzles, crimes to stop, and Easter eggs from across 86 years of Bat-history.
No release date yet, but Legacy of the Dark Knight is set to hit PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and the Switch 2 in 2026.
And yeah, I'll say it: this might just be the Batman game of my dreams and the fact that's it's all in Lego form just adds to the magic.
